Gender & Media Workshops

To honour the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, Hiwa foundation joined forces with the Gender Media Organisation to design and facilitate the training programme, ‘Gender and Media’ for a group of women journalists. The programme took place over four days, with training sessions delivered by Dr. Choman Hardi, Dr. Saman Fawzi, Barham Khalid and Shiraz Rauf.

The workshops explored definitions of gender inequality in the context of media coverage, including how traditional views on masculinity and femininity are represented in the press. Attendees learned from the experts, and were encouraged to think critically about the impact of the media on society as a whole, especially with regards to attitudes towards women and concepts of gender.
